It’s dead in Australia. Two local servers, zero players. Shame, I really enjoyed it.
Last update was 2 years ago and player base is 400 average this month. I don’t buy it but I hope I am wrong about this.
Alive is a strong word (I think the master servers were fucked a few days ago?) but here is hoping.
The reality is that Battlebit has no chance in a world where people, miraculously, like Battlefield again. But I actually REALLY liked it and preferred its balance and TTK. And it might be the only game where I have ever enjoyed proximity chat (with pubs) since that, combined with dragging wounded folk, just works so well for both drama and hilarity.
As someone who genuinely likes the Battlefield series (and has said in many a chat “do not play Conquest. It is shit. Play Rush”) and is REALLY annoyed that EA are so anti-Linux… Battlebit is easily up there with BC2 and BF3 in terms of being one of the most genuinely fun and balanced BFs.
If Battlebit’s performance is good for the Steam Deck, I think I would get back into it easily
Couldn’t have said it better. Battlebit revived gaming for me after not playing an online shooter since Battlefield 4.
Hopefully when winter rolls around I can get back to it!
And it might be the only game where I have ever enjoyed proximity chat
Did we play the same Battlebit? I don’t remember much positivity coming out of proximity voice chat. Every match started with a flood of VOIP spam of screaming and loud, shitty music. It seems without fail, I’d spend the first 15 seconds of every match muting everyone that appeared in comms. At least the devs made that super easy.
Battlebit filled the hole I needed it to while I avoided BF2042; quite fun, but the population died off and it started feeling stale.
I might look into the update when it hits, but with a worth-playing new-release Battlefield, I’ll probably just stick to Battlefield.
Yeah the spaming at the start of the match is fairly common, but you just press f1-3 to mute the current people yelling and boom, never have to listen to them again. For the rest of the match at least.
Been a bit. Maybe I turned off overall comms but left proximity voice on? That sounds like something I would do?
But I dunno. Put in apparently 30 hours. There were definitely people playing music and chewing loudly but I more noticed it when they were giving their squads away and letting me get my ambush on. Aside from that it was just fun stuff like people going full Peewee Herman after getting shot or talking about spam musubi while the world around us was exploding before the enemy push.
I’ve had full servers of people just meowing, which was fantastic, or RPing when shot and going down. “Help me sarge! Gah. It-it hurts!”
RPing when shot and going down. “Help me sarge! Gah. It-it hurts!”
The chopper pilots that spent the entire match ferrying people from base to the front while blasting the weirdest song mix you’ve ever heard.
Ahh I remember this game I played it all night on election night calmly telling my partner that Harris was going to win until she didn’t.
I was watching V for Vendetta, a movie about how people allow a fascist government to replace a democracy, because it was November 5th, a crucial political date in that story.
Dropping the first bit of proper news on Steam since early 2024 after the release of Battlefield 6 is certainly a choice
Not a terrible one. 4 people can play this game for less than the price of one person playing Battlefield 6. You can capture everyone that’s on a budget or can’t play BF6 due to Secure Boot requirements.
When I was playing it on Linux I would randomly get stutters, did it got fixed? I might try it again if that’s the case
Yes.
I’d only play it if the game wasn’t P2W despite one having to pay for it. If P2W is removed, I’d consider it. Otherwise, don’t bet on me playing it anytime soon.
How is it pay 2 win? There arent even micro transactions.
From the No Pay To Win Coalition’s review on Steam:
“Overall: 2/5*
Not recommended!
Likely to become a P2W, due to it being a GaaS game.
- Bad progression system, rigged against newbies.
Other issues:
- Cheaters
- GaaS
A low-poly Battlefield copy. ”
If it isn’t P2W as of right now, it will be that way. This also has to do with old-school ownership, as you’re paying for a license that will be revoked any time the devs feel like it.
The above poster is likely to become a racist terrorist, given their history of comments getting downvoted.

I suggest you look at someone else for reviews because this review is both inaccurate and somehow also blindingly stupid.
I’d only play it if the game wasn’t P2W
it isn’t P2W as of right now
I have good news and bad news!
The good news is that the game isn’t P2W, so you can play it now! The bad news is that you might be an idiot. I’m sorry you had to find out this way.
Seriously, you’re spreading misinformation about a game you know nothing about. Based entirely on some random group’s subjective and baseless opinion on what might happen to this game in the future. It would be difficult to get any more dishonest than that. It’s sad.
It seems that Steam group doesn’t know wtf it’s talking about. It’s got no MTX, no plans for MTX, and is not even a GaaS/Live Service game.
I know you mentioned this game to me in this community in the last couple of days, and now this update came along and surprised us all. Would you mind confirming if a dedicated server can be spun up for local play only, with no internet? And if so, does the game have bots to fill out a private server?
You can host a dedicated server (there are guides for how, because it’s entirely from the command line I believe), and it does have LAN support, but I have never used it myself.
I don’t think it has bots, but I’m not actually 100% sure.
…
What? Battlebit isn’t even a Games as a Service game. It is just a video game. Or is the existence of free skins from twitch drops enough for that?
And it is “pay to win” because “it might become pay to win at some point”?
Buddy… find better influencers. Because whatever “group” that is… is pretty fucking stupid.
Last I heard there was a massive problem with cheaters and are planning a lot of microtransactions. Like, I’ve heard that in some cases every other lobby has a cheater. Not sure if that’s still an issue, but if it is imma still avoid it. It was definitely fun when it first came out and I hope they do something about the cheaters or already have done something about the cheaters.
The game is P2W, so of course there would be cheaters. There was an anti-cheat used in EAC, but that was bypassable, especially nowadays.
I’m pretty sure there’s nothing you can buy that has any effect on gameplay so idk where you got P2W from.
