1·2 months agoI suppose I shouldn’t be shocked that I find this kind of shit in your profile:

I have no respect for someone who will use that word as a put-down. It is disgusting and you should be better than that.
No thanks.

4·2 months agoI think it is the better of the two. I dislike how EmuDeck organizes itself (it doesn’t). Last time I had it installed, it had 32GB in so many different incomprehensible folders in my Steam Deck. I had three emulators running, with a handful of games. It was also a complete nightmare to uninstall when the time came. But in the end, it just comes down to preference.
RetroDECK can all run from a SD card. ROMs, BIOS, HD texture packs, mods, everything runs perfectly and in a nice little self-contained space. I love it!
You can always test it out, if you have a spare SD card they’ll run side-by-side. And you can read my interviews, chats and articles with the RetroDECK team too, if you’d like to see what they’re all about :)

3·2 months agoGood decision!
They’re amazing and so well regarded in the retro handheld scene.
I have a Retroid Pocket 6 being delivered in the next few days to review, so I’m looking forward to that!

You can!
There’s a couple ancient guides out there (from around 2008), but technically? Doable!

1·2 months agothen decided a retro handheld was the way to go
They 100% are, and they’re so amazing these days! I have the Anbernic RG Vita Pro, the Retroid Pocket 6 and the TRIMUI Brick Pro sent to me to review next up! But there really is some satisfaction on playing games on their native hardware, even if all of these three can upscale those PSP games a trillion percent to look perfect

53·2 months agoOh come on. Is it really that annoying for you that I said ‘everyone’? Do you really think I meant everyone alive has bought one?
Jesus this is just so petty.

3·2 months agoThe only one to really avoid is the PSP-Street (the ‘budget’ console, it only came with one speaker), so the ones to go for are pretty much the 2000 or 3000, from what I know they used the same speakers, 3.5mm jack, etc. And for the best possible sound (obv), using headphones really works wonders on these

2·2 months agoIf you get to seriously looking, I recommend the OSTENT 1400 mAh battery for the PSP. You get extra capacity in the same size, and they are dependable

4·2 months agoI really didn’t think that:
a) my article was click-bait (we’re a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally small site, there’s no need to even try click-bait!), and
b) I needed to explain that I didn’t mean ‘everyone’
Glad you can see that, this seems weirdly attack-y.

4·2 months agoAhhhh let me shamelessly share my own article on my preferred method of buying one these days:
https://gardinerbryant.com/i-bought-a-junk-psp-from-japan-heres-how-it-went/
I’d recommend the PSP-2000. They have twice the RAM of the 1000, better battery life, and (to me) they feel a little heftier in a good way over the 3000.

3·2 months agoEven if you’re on the ‘wrong’ firmware, a jailbreak takes a matter of minutes these days! Add in the ability to use expanded batteries (I have a 1400 mAh in mine), adapter cards to use micro SD in the ‘shape’ of the proprietary memory stick duos, all those games and you’ve got a wonderful machine!

6·2 months agoNot true! OSTENT have wonderful batteries and have long-since become the default recommendation. I have a 1400 mAh one in mine (slight bump up on the regular capacity)

It really is wonderful, and I’ve chatted to the developer of PPSSPP a few times. I tried to organize a interview with him a few months ago :)
But as much as I love PPSSPP (and I do, I test it on the retro handhelds I review each time!), there’s a lot that can be said for playing these games on the original hardware. I cover some of that in my article there!
