The UN should’ve never been located in the US. It’s biased af, and I’m saying this as an American. Because imagine how this feels if the UN was in Shanghai or Moscow. This shit is so dumb. Should be in Geneva, Switzerland, an actual neutral country.

He called for the formation of a “world salvation army, whose first task is to liberate Palestine”.

“That is why, from here in New York, I ask all soldiers in the United States Army not to point their rifles at humanity,” he said. “Disobey Trump’s order! Obey the order of humanity!”

Petro added: “As happened in the First World War, I want the young people, sons and daughters of workers and farmers, of both Israel and the United States, to point their rifles not toward humanity, but toward the tyrants and toward the fascists.”

He also directly called for US soldiers to disobey orders, so there may be more to this story.

“Disobey Trump’s orders” is what he said. Disobey horrible orders whether legal or illegal.

A ballsy thing for a president to go to a demonstration in another country and tell its military to disobey their own president. If the president of Portugal did the same in Denmark, I would absolutely expect him to be expelled from the Danish territory.

Personally, if any country’s president was to do the same in Finland, I would see that as an actual act of war by his country.

This all having been said: whatever is done against Trump is done for USA. The president of Colombia did an awesome thing and I’m happy he did it!

It was said in the UN, if the UN is controlled by US interests like that it has failed. Both being in UN buildings and travelling to and from them must be protected by diplomatic immunity, else what is even the point of having a UN?

BBC News says it was said using a megaphone when talking to a large crowd:

Petro shared a video on social media of him addressing a large crowd through a megaphone in Spanish on Friday.

He called for the formation of a “world salvation army, whose first task is to liberate Palestine”.

You forgot to read the end of my comment.

We are almost completely in agreement.

(Of course Trump’s rhyme and reason are irrelevant here. The president of Colombia is not known as a moron and there is a demand for him to act like a diplomat even when visiting a moron. But, Trump, Mussolini and similar make an exception: the charter of Human Rights is the most important piece of rules there is, and it basically requires everybody to behave that way. Therefore: unusual but acceptable.)

You say that like it’s an escalation from the previous rhetoric… It’s literally a call against violence

Our military is being given orders to turn on our people. So far, they’ve managed to maliciously comply. Instead of menacing they smile and wave, instead of martial occupation they pick up trash and have to be ordered to carry weapons, and somehow every last one of them suddenly forgot how to march when it’s time for a parade

The military following their oaths instead of their orders is the very last line of defense. A surprising one, but one that is holding so far

Yeah, it’s the part where the US military is summarily executing civilians right at his country’s doorstep.

The action was not taken following his UN speech. it was following a separate speech in which he said, “I ask all the soldiers of the United States’ army, …disobey the orders of Trump.”

Imagine Trump visiting Colombia and saying something like that (not that hard to imagine, really). Petro would be in every right to revoke his visa.

For additional context, it was not clear which orders he was referring to, but there are no US Army troops in Gaza.

If the Narcos organized a boycott to expedite US regime change I’d laugh my ass off as not a soul left studying history would be able to declare anything except the final victory of drugs in the war on drugs. Like we all know drugs won, but by god that would be an annihilation.

If anyone has the capital (both political and monetary) and the ability to execute, Narcos certainly do. Assuming they aren’t obsessed with greed, if they made some sort of public announcement saying that they are patriots and would not only boycott US markets but would engage with other producers to stop their own shipments, I would love to see the fall out. I suspect it wouldn’t be visible. After all, I suspect that most cocaine drug users in the US aren’t the most reliable voting contingent.

But it would be fun to see how Trump reacts to it.

Not even Trump would be that stupid. That would be a complete detonation of any diplomatic agreement. The moment they’d do that, any US diplomat or representative in the world would become fair game to imprison.

      So UN leaves to Geneva.

Then the US says, “The UN has abandoned us. We are leaving the UN.”

The US leaves the UN, throwing away an incredible amount of soft power. We fade on the world stage.

Trump is a horrible pathetic moronic excuse for a leader.

I know a kid (I work with kids) who provokes the adult (me) until it gets a negative reaction, which it then spins and exaggerates and tells their parents and friends.

Simply remaining calm does not help. They will needle and prod until they get a reaction. And if I don’t my silence will be interpreted as a negative reaction.

So, kinda fascinating how this 8-year-old’s behavior tracks with US government’s behavior.

The real estate belongs to the United States government. Trump, of course, has already said he wants to build a hotel/casino there.

Edit: oops, my mistake. The city of New York donated the land to the UN, on which they built the complex. It is considered international territory. Something I did not know.
