  • Its hyped by FT and more economy driven outlets because it makes them nervous. The replacement rate of births was always enough to support retirement pension plans. Now it’s not.

Japan is way ahead of the curve on this inevitable trend than other countries so it will be really interesting see how it adjusts and what markets are affected by this.

In terms of buying a house, is remote work really not a thing in Japan? Living in a remote village sounds lime a dream. Otherwise, are there no towns/villages where foreigners sort of band together and are allowed to buy property? Just curious about how Japan functions

  • w.r.t to aping and using text: I agree with your appeals, which make sense to seasoned web users who favour text and APIs over instead images, videos, and audio.

But consider now your parents generation: flummoxed by even the clearest of web forms, and that’s even when they manage to make it to the official site.
Consider also the next generation: text/forum abhorrent, and largely consumes video/audio content.

It’s not the way things should be, but it is the way things are/are going, and having a bot that can navigate these default forms of media would help a lot of people.

I’d say that AI definitely can adapt in the moment if you supply it with the right context (where context-length is a problem that will get cheaper with time). A hotel doesn’t need to train the model, it can supply its AI-provider with a basic spec sheet and they can do the training. Bespoke laws and customs can be inserted into the prompt.

  • Makes sense, I just dont quite get what the compositor does in the case of two videos being played simulatanously both with vastly different profiles (e.g. one mostly red, one mostly blue).

Does the compositor then do correction on a per-window basis, or it just averages across the whole screen. This question is likely outside of the scope of the PR

  • I guess related to the MPV post. From what I understand wp_color_manager_v1 essentially tells a window manager what colorspace its outputting (via dbus?) so that the window manager can make (realtime?) color corrections.

Trying to think of a use case… maybe if you have a really red video scene, your window manager can normalise that so you can see the different shades of red better. Am I even close?
