Why would you disregard the political implications?

I have looked it up. That’s why I’m correcting you.

The country changed it in 1991, which is the year they got their independence.

“Ukraine” means “borderland”. Adding “the” in front of it makes it descriptive: the borderland of a larger nation. Removing the “the” makes it a name, which it is, because it’s its own country.

I don’t correct people unless I’ve already looked it up. And I don’t continue the conversation without looking it up again. Just say “Ukraine”.

Except it’s not like that. “The Ukraine” is how it was referred to when it was part of Russia. “Ukraine” is correct.

It’s just “Ukraine”. “The Ukraine” implies that it’s a territory and not the name of an independent country.

Oh, he’s just going down a rabbit hole! He’s going on a cute little adventure where he does a fucking Nazi salute in front of the whole country, then proceeds to recklessly dismantle huge parts of the US government, but it’s all just part of his magical little journey! Teehee!

That solves the problem this time, but it doesn’t help if I’m trying to navigate somewhere new.

If it doesn’t have the address for a 30-year-old house in a major metropolitan area, then I just don’t think it’s a viable replacement for Google Maps, unfortunately.

I’m all for swapping apps, but Organic Maps doesn’t even have my home address. And I live in a major metropolitan area.

The first part of doing this intellectual exercise should be to eliminate the obviously unacceptable options. For example we can pretty definitively say, right off the bat, that a concentration camp in Guantanamo Bay is not worth considering even for a moment.

Giving everyone a reasonable path to citizenship. Immigration is good. It’s good economically, culturally, and morally. The only argument against immigration is bigotry.

Are you suggesting that imprisoning them indefinitely is somehow the correct solution?
