That’s fair. Honestly, the only games in my experience that don’t run on Linux have been artificially crippled with anticheat; I even play some old ones that don’t even run on windows anymore 😂

Is 89% of the top 1000 not good enough to just call it 90% of games?

If it’s your daily, sure, use Mint. But you will learn a lot more about Linux if you install Arch the hard way, especially if it’s your “fuckin’ around PC”.

I’ve used a 360 emulator and I think there’s a xbone emulator but definitely not series. Perhaps they have their own in-house one. I think they’ve basically been using PC hardware forever though, and the Xbox OS is basically stripped down windows so this doesn’t seem like a huge jump. As I recall PlayStation OS is basically BSD, too, which is both sweet and not for various reasons. Exclusives are dead anyway and consoles often get sold at a loss to move games, I’d argue that all consoles should just be PCs.
That’s really interesting and I appreciate taking the time to write that comment, but I’d put Mac and Windows on the same team because their goals are basically the same, to transfer wealth from the consumer to the company. Linux, and open source software in general, does not have that same motivation to squeeze the consumer so of course it’s going to be better.
Mac hardware gets sold at tremendous markup because it’s so closed. Windows is little more than a vessel to show ads. Linux is a good experience from installation onward, almost regardless of distribution. Free of telemetry and runs on literally whatever, if it can run code it can probably run Linux. I have a laptop from 2011 that runs Arch with XFCE and it’s buttery smooth. My 2012 MacBook pro has been a paperweight for years and Microsoft wants me to throw away anything that can’t be tied to me personally.
That said I would MUCH rather use macos than windows, my wife has an m1 MacBook Air that I use sometimes and it’s definitely more pleasant than Windows. However, I think Linux is the odd man out. MacOS vs Windows is like stubbing your left toe vs your right toe.
I run Arch btw on my gaming PC and my old ass laptop I can show you my qualifications if you want 😂

We the people are changing it to Grifting Ol’ Pedophiles
MacOS or whatever they call it now is “unix-like” but it’s still ultimately a closed environment and definitely not the same, ethically, as a real FOSS OS. Apple doesn’t care about you any more than Microsoft or Google, they’re also in it for money.

Pretty much everything that isn’t artificially crippled to not run on Linux runs better on Linux

I was troubleshooting some audio hardware and decided that I should try it on windows, to make sure it was hardware and not software. So I tried to download an install disc image that I could put on my thumb drive and it was surprisingly hard, then I got driver failures, then I lost count of all the boxes I had to uncheck, then finally after like 2 hours I was greeted by ads on my desktop. Just a really bad experience overall. I cannot fathom why anyone uses that piece of crap.
Anyway so I figured out it was a Linux problem because of course it was just plug-and-play on Windows, and I found my misconfiguration and fixed it in 10 seconds, and I thought about the tech literacy of the average person, and realized that is why people use windows. They don’t care about shit except least resistance. That was the first time I’ve booted windows since 2020 though, so here’s hoping it was the last time.

Are Bevis and Butthead going to be in there

I already have a beefy gaming PC and would much rather get an updated steam deck, that sucks
I used to have a Nvidia card when I started my Linux lifestyle. It wasn’t that big of a deal but a few things were broken especially with Wayland, which was hot garbage at the time. I switched to AMD for ideological reasons a couple years ago, but almost all of the problems had been resolved. I assume now only extreme edge cases would be a problem.
As far as gaming, I used to use ProtonDB before every purchase but now I just assume shit will work with a few exceptions. I don’t play games that don’t run on Linux so im missing out on CoD and a few other competitive games, but on the whole I don’t care about those games anyway. I have hundreds of games in my library and they all run beautifully on Linux with no tinkering, I can’t even remember the last time I had to fix anything.
Honestly it’s gotten boring, come to realize I actually prefer tinkering to actually playing games.
Do you mean to tell me that IP law exists only to gatekeep ideas and funnel wealth into an ever-shrinking number of hands? And maybe that the execution of those ideas is more important? You might be on to something…
