Most zoomers are adults. 96 to 2010 means only the youngest zoomers are minors. In 3 years, every zoomer will be a legal adult.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Coin-sized nuclear 3V battery with 50-year lifespan enters mass production
1·7 months ago“If you swallowed or inhaled this battery you’d be exposed to significant amounts of radiation.”
It’s beta radiation, which can be stopped by a layer of tin foil, I think. So yeah if you ate the source itself that would be bad, but if you eat the battery with the casing, probably much less bad?
Spoken like someone who never trapped a sim in a room and burned them alive

1·8 months agoExactly this! Just let me pay the higher price! Trying to gift to an Australian friend was always an exercise in frustration. I don’t care if it’s more expensive just let me DO IT

8·8 months agoHeadline sounds like FOSS bro cope. They’re talking about letting users choose to have a robots.txt denying AI dataset scrapers lol.
Not like other sites do a good job of preventing it anyway. robots.txt is not worth the metaphorical paper it’s written on.

World News@lemmy.ml•China hits Canada with retaliatory tariffs on agricultural products
3·8 months agoThe auto industry takes up a huge segment of our economy, rivalled only by resource extraction. We’re trying to transition to the EV industry, and removing tariffs on EVs would essentially be a death blow to our auto industry, as ICE cars are phased out over the coming decades. So it’s not just about protecting American companies, because American companies manufacture here.

World News@lemmy.ml•Canadian premier says he will cut off electricity exports to US ‘with a smile on my face’
1·8 months agoI think we sell power mostly to alleviate excess supply during low demand periods since most of our generation is relatively stable. Another way to alleviate excess supply in low demand periods, if you can’t sell it to your neighbours, is to shift demand from peak periods by… making peak more expensive.
And a third way is to make the cost of electricity during low demand periods negative, to incentivize excess electricity use (and enterprising individuals with storage capacity to charge up so it can be discharged during peak).

Linux@lemmy.ml•Can we please, PLEASE for gods sake just all agree that arch is not and will never be a good beginner distro no matter how many times you fork it?
21·8 months agoTo half the users in this thread, normal people use computers as a means to an end.
“If you’re not prepared to get your hands dirty this OS is not for you” you’ve already lost me, this is unhinged behaviour. You have one life and you choose to spend it fixing your computer so it will do the same things except slightly differently.
But I know this is an unpopular opinion for Linux users.

“Sounds like it is working pretty well to me” when I spend multiple days trying to get Linux working for one purpose (to draw) and am unsuccessful.
This is why “current year is the year of the Linux desktop” is hilarious to anyone who doesn’t use Linux.
