Neoliberal ideologues and anti left fear mongering kept the party divided, and it’s not like the left wing of the party were the ones unwilling to compromise. AOC played ball to have influence in the party, voting rights activists endorsed voter ID laws to try to compromise with Republicans, yet it didn’t matter because they were always the ones who were expected to give something up. The right wing of the party used the spectre of needing to compromise with fascists to bend the progressive to heel, and they couldn’t even win over the people on the right they were trying to appeal to.

The sad part is they doomed the party in 2020 when they voted for Biden because they wanted to “return to sanity.” That was the last opportunity to right the ship, but because Bernie was still too radical despite the conservative losing in 2016, people voted for the “safe” picks in droves. It didn’t even matter what the lower levels of the party demanded, as Biden refused to hold an open primary because he saw 1 win as a mandate for 2.

So no, it’s not just the non-voters or third party voters who are responsible, but the rank and file Democrats who fumbled the game. Even the progressives should’ve been more demanding. People were still unaware of how bad things could get; unaware that left wing populism wasn’t just an idealistic dream, but the necessary weapon for defeating right wing populism.

They made so many blunders leading up to the election that I knew who I would be responsible if we lost. As someone who has voted in every single regional and national election since I was eligible, I saw them do everything in their power to be unlikable enough to lose to evil incarnate. It was the last election that mattered, but you wouldn’t think it based on how they ran the country and their campaigns.

They put capital above democracy, put nationalism over human rights, and they never plan to undo the damage done unless the owning class allows it. Nah, he doesn’t need to claim regime change because he can honestly declare victory far easier. Unlike most other efforts in the middle east, they actually are trying to accomplish something achievable: decimating Iran’s military to set them back several years and limit their danger in the near future. It’s not worth the cost and accomplishes little in the long run, but it is far more realistic than nation building or anything similar the US has tried.

He understands: Maduro weak, Iran not quite as weak. He just goes along with Israel’s plans because he appreciates how they kill brown people. Maduro was deposed because Venezuela was an easy target to show strength against. It accomplished nothing for the US just like the current war, but Trump never gave a shit about US interests.

Very different situations. Maduro was dictator of a relatively smaller nation that would not be the same without him there, while Iran is larger, more powerful, and has a leadership structure less dependent on one person. Even then, kidnapping Maduro does not mean his more pro US replacement is a reliable ally. She could be overthrown and is limited in how much she can help them.

Says the person who misses the bigger picture. The US and Israel don’t want to national build, they just want Iran’s military to be weaker. They know that installing a long lasting puppet would be next to impossible, so they instead want to disarm their enemy.
