Games@lemmy.world•Meta progression in roguelites was fun for a while, but it's starting to feel unrewardingEnglish
2·1 month agoBut Scylla and the Sirens featuring Charybdis doesn’t feel as different to me as say the Collector vs the Champ. I like the randomness and didn’t realize until this comment- though you could argue the music for the Scylla fight is random at least!

4·1 month agoYou just made me appreciate Slay the Spire more with the boss choices for each act. I didn’t realize until this comment how refreshing that is. Even Hades 1 had some variety in the first two boss fights (which fury was showing up, what kind of heads Lernie had…)

World News@lemmy.world•‘She was like a deer in headlights’: how unskilled radical birthkeepers took hold in CanadaEnglish
32·3 months agoThis is so interesting to me. I had a theory that a lot of the free birth movement stemmed from the financial barriers to medically supported birth in the US, and wanting to reclaim some kind of control. If it’s their choice to not seek medical care it’s empowering- if they can’t afford it, they are disenfranchised. In a nation of “temporarily embarrassed millionaires” nobody wants to admit they are too poor for healthcare. Being able to curate an image on social media of how this is the “better” option- even if they convince themselves to genuinely believe it!- let’s them keep self esteem.
Canada doesn’t have the same financial barriers but we are so steeped in American media that I’m not surprised it’s caught on here.
What I am surprised about is how are they making money??? What are you selling??

3·5 months agoComparing to the dotcom bubble is what finally made it make sense in my brain. Though I know the toll it took on that sector’s workers and I don’t envy those in fields that are going to be affected the same way.

Games@lemmy.world•Game design question : how to make a "trapped" player character?English
4·11 months agoFunny enough, I just finished playing through Paper Mario 64, and you’ve basically described Peach’s chapters. She’s able to pass on messages by way of using another character as a messenger.
The way the game is structured is there’s a mini Peach chapter in between each main chapter, but I think it would have been intriguing if you never actually got to see Mario’s side of the story and only heard about his adventures from the guards, diary entries, etc. Cool idea for a puzzle game!

2·1 year agoIf something takes more than 4 years it gets lumped into “never” territory because no political party wants the next party to get credit for their work.
Guarantee it took Germany more than 4 years to recover their reputation (and even then, not enough to do well in Eurovision).

1·1 year agoI think even a plane crash where no one was hurt is more headline-worthy than a train crash with no one hurt. Fear sells, and many people have a fear of flying.
What happens a lot more frequently is landing gear failures or engine problems that still have a smooth landing. They do pull out all the stops though and will have emergency response on standby the moment they aren’t sure the landing gear deployed properly.
