They don’t own it yet
There’s nothing secret about it. They told us up front.
It’s why I stopped using Windows.
You’re not wrong, Nintendo fans will buy this. As a Nintendo fan, I will buy this - though, it’s gone from a Day 1, no-brainer purchase to “when I can justify the expense” - but Nintendo fans make up a small fraction of people who bought a Switch 1.
See: Wii U, 3DS
The Wii and DS printed money, and they assumed most of those users would move on to the new hardware. They did not. They had to slash the 3DS price within months, and nothing saved the Wii U.
It’s like someone showed him a plastic toy mallet and it’s the only tool he’s aware of in his toolbox.
Ah, he thinks choosing to take our balls and play with each other, rather than him, is against the rulesv I see. Can’t wait to see how this plays out.
Like, I know this is what Poutin planned to happen, but what does Donny Dorko here think the end result is going to be?
It’s been a long time coming. Their “American Exceptionalism” thing has been leading this way for decades now. They’re just not smart enough anymore to keep their fart sniffing and xenophobic comments among themselves anymore.
Techbros killed me, Mal.
No new president will successfully patch this over. It will take decades.
It’s not Trump. It’s the US voters who have proven themselves unreliable partners in international affairs.
It’s probably not cheaper than just shooting orphans for sport.
Arrow+Ctrl gang rise up!
Any deal with Trump is no deal at all. He’s the kind of guy that, if you give an inch, starts waving his hands around about how you stole 16 inches from him, and how you must be thrown in a hole somewhere.
Granting him anything is telling him that you are weak and ripe to be exploited.
You could spin one up this evening if you wanted. Or go use catodon.social.
That’s not the point. The point is, there are reasons Mastodon is being rejected, just like there are reasons you seemingly cannot pay people to use a Misskey-based or Hubzilla-based website.
It’s not where the people are going, and the public or semi-public figures are going to follow the people.
Why switch to Mastodon when there is Misskey?
Why use Misskey when there is Hubzilla?
Trump wants to own hotels and resorts in a razed and reconstructed Gaza. Do you think he cares where the Palestinians go? Do you think the rest of the world will want to look more deeply into it if he just says “they’ve been relocated, no I won’t tell you to where”?
He’s presenting a Palästinenserproblem. People should be watching very carefully.
I like the theory that Tesla had a long term roadmap before Elon scooped it up, and that he wasn’t able to do too much to disrupt that in the early years because he was focused on LARPing as Tony Stark on the Internet, and the team that developed around him to insulate the company from him were reasonably good at their jobs. But even the best can only hold back so few bad ideas while keeping up the illusion, and the result has been gradually diminishing amount of ass.
Until that roadmap ran out, and/or Elon stopped being distracted, resulting in them designing and building the Elon.
Higher than usual, though, because Trump’s ego cannot stand being told “no” even when it’s a totally toothless rejection.
It’s absolutely reverse engineering. People want to believe that the world is a meritocracy, and that means believing that those who have succeeded at meritful.
People avoid internalizing that the world is a kleptocracy, because that would mean having to confront that if they want to get ahead, they’ll have to actively amd knowingly fuck other people over, and most of us are not psychopaths
My instance preemptively defederated from Threads, but I’m assuming those ads are going to be served to Threads users via API, right, and not federated out?
Things don’t really federate out with ActivityPub, they federate in. To receive off-site content, you have to subscribe to it.
Who is going to subscribe to a Threads ad bot?
So many great things listed as negatives :(
I think it’s dangerous to imagine people follow these folks, or let them run rampant over society, because they aspire to be like them. That makes it so much harder to really understand why people support them, or even just refuse to tell them “no”, and makes it impossible to do anything about it.
People believe that life is a meritocracy. Even when they themselves can look around at the people near them and see that those in positions of power don’t deserve it, they still view society as a whole as “fair”. Yes, they personally have may have gotten screwed over, but, in general, the people who float to the top got there because they were smarter and more capable. Therefore, we should sit back and just let them cook.
They need some kind of trigger to see the billionaires not as people who have earned their place, but who have stolen it.
