Pretty confident “Look Outside” is an RPG maker game. I cannot recommend it enough. It is an immaculately written game, and oozes passion and personality.

Notch sold the game to Microsoft long before it was ever a complete game. Why program something when you can sell players on an idea and then sell that idea to Microsoft?

Games@lemmy.world•Disco Elysium - The Final Cut is free to claim on epic games for the next 24hEnglish
2010·29 days agoSame.
The writing wastes a LOT of time. Yes, I get it, that’s the vibe they want to set, but the vibe was set like 5 minutes ago, and all you’ve done since is print synonyms for “drunk asshole.”
It’s also paraded as pro-communist media, and it really isn’t at all. People are so capitalist-brained, that any game which places communism and capitalism on equal footing, pointing out the faults in both and mocking them relentlessly, is somehow “pro-communist.” In particular, the games plot-relevant example of a die-hard communist is not someone to aspire to. Neither are the capitalists or fascists, but that’s kind of the point: it’s hard to say it supports any political viewpoint when it shits on everyone fairly equally.
Honestly, I wanted and expected a lot more out of it. Particularly in the ending.
Though it was absolutely worth the playthrough. It’s a fantastic game, just not this pinnacle of writing the way the internet plays it off to be.

Games@lemmy.world•‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Maker Promises ‘Divinity’ Will Be ‘Next Level’English
7·1 month agoLet’s be straight: as amazing as Baldur’s Gate 3 is today, Act 3 launched half baked and half broken. My first playthrough experience was horrible, largely thanks to broken flags and missing content from the Upper City, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have comparable experiences with early versions of Original Sin 2. Hell, they rewrote basically the entire final act of that game with the definitive edition, and I’m under the impression Original Sin 1 had a similiar situation, though I didn’t play it enough between the original and the definitive edition to experience it.
Now, part of all this is because Larian opts to make decisions to cut content and reduce scope rather than abuse their staff or delay a project. In Baldur’s Gate specificslly, I won’t say I am perfectly happy with the outcome, but they are a good studio that practices reasonable employee ethics, and ultimately puts in the work to get there with the product as well. I’d have no issue buying Divinity day one or even pre-ordering, but I do not expect a perfectly complete and polished experience on release.
You can’t just expect people to actively interpret media. We have entire school systems designed to avoid educating them with those skills.

8·1 month agoBoys, my little rhythm gamer heart has quite possibly never been as blessed as it is this week. Rhythm Doctor, unbeatable, now Bits and Bops?
We just need Tango Gameworks to officially announce that their studio is up and running working on Hi-Fi Rush 2, and my cup will have completely run over.

People from .ml:
Played the entire thing start to finish last night. The new content is incredible, as expected.
Come for the quirky, one-button rhythm game. Stay for the character driven story about the weight of the expectations we place on ourselves and each other, and the way that effects our mental health, physical health, relationships, and worldview.

World News@lemmy.world•Zelensky’s Government Sabotaged Oversight, Allowing Corruption to FesterEnglish
3·2 months agoYeah, interesting article, but in the context of being posted on Lemmy, I’m immediately left asking questions on the intent here. “Zelensky did a bad thing” is the kind of domino that some people in these parts would use to start the “and this is why Russia has to murder civilians” discussion.
Confirmation bias can be a hell of a drug. I hope that any corruption is properly investigated, just not by a hostile, Imperialist nation using force of arms.

World News@lemmy.world•China imposes value-added tax on contraceptive drugs and devices - including condoms - to reverse plunging birth rates that threaten to slow economyEnglish
3·2 months agoThen I believe you I missed the comparison.
I’m not suggesting that in both cases, a government is doing things to make “bad choices” harder. I’m suggesting that in both cases a government is disproportionately punishing the less wealthy to get what it wants. In neither case does the government gives a shit if you, individually, lead a healthier life or have a child. It wants you to generate more wealth for the country, whether that be by demanding less for health care costs or by producing the next worker drone.
The point in the sugar tax comparison, a real thing that happened in parts of Canada by the way, is that the government should be reducing the costs of the healthy choices, not making the unhealthy choices more expensive, as people were largely turning to unhealthy choices because they were cheaper and do not have the wealth to make better choices. Likewise, if the Chinese government wants to improve the birth rate of its population, they should make childcare more affordable and look to give parents more wealth/time, not attempt to punish them financially for preventing a pregnancy. Punishing a population that is making the choice you don’t want them to make out of necessity isn’t the solution to get them to make the choice you want. “Poor tax” is never a good solution, and that’s what the comparison is: two versions of “poor tax.”

9·2 months agoThis is some “people aren’t choosing healthy food, so raise the taxes on sugar” shit.
How about building a society and economy where having children doesn’t feel like an overwhelming detriment to the parent’s and child’s well-being?
I got curious and started Googling. Apparently China has VERY recently created a subsidy for parents, and finally begun creating support for early childhood care centers, which have traditionally been apparently prohibitively expensive due to privatization (In MY “Communist” China?). It’s good to see there is some actual social progress being implement alongside the hair-brained capitalist schemes that only serve to do harm to the poorest classes. But hey, fuck the points if it keeps the economy going, right?

Games@lemmy.world•Valve confirms Steam Machine will be priced ‘like a PC with the same level of performance’English
18·2 months agoThere are people who exist between “I build, format and otherwise manage my own gaming rig,” and “I don’t need a PC for games.”
My partner is a perfect example. She has my old PC shell, with some $500 of GPU, internal memory, and accessories, hooked up to the TV. She uses it daily, almost exclusively for Steam games and streaming services that she finds more comfortable to navigate with a keyboard and mouse. A smaller, quieter, streamlined, “this more or less will do the things you want to do straight out of the box” product would have saved both her (and I, because that thing has had some troubleshooting) a lot of headache, while looking far more presentable to boot.
Maybe she’s the odd one out and the target audience is more niche than my bias’ recognize, but I guess we’ll see for sure when this thing releases.

2·2 months agoYou’re saying Marx while advocating for a Stalin-style dictatorship. Any proletariat uprising that depends on a separate class to perform in any position of dictatorship is a fascist - as was the case with Russia - or capitalist - as in China - regime in disguise.
I have never claimed to support any form of liberalism. That was a stance you imposed on me when I attacked your politics.
But, I digress, you kept it civil, I’ll take the opportunity to flip my attitude and do the same. While I still do not respect your politics, everyone deserves proper care, and everyone deserves to rest. I genuinely do hope you heal well.

My friend, if you think dictatorship is a progressive step towards communism, I have a bridge you can hand ownership of to the state.
For someone who wants to try and play semantics, you’re quite quick to throw yourself, and your argument, under the bus. Perhaps pick a game you’re good at. You’re embarrassing your glorious leader over here.

9·2 months agoOf course I’m angry. Tankies defending a state-capitalist autocracy pisses me off, as it should any rational, progressive human being. The “Internet tough-guy calling people angry” schtick doesn’t dissuade china’s aggression to the sovereign nation of Taiwan, un-genocide any Ugyhur lives, or free China’s “totally not homeless” population out of the concentration camps the state uses to hold up their economy. My anger is well directed, and your attempt to belittle that isn’t the “own” that you and your fascist ilk seem to believe it is.
Fuck the States. This thread isn’t about them, their history of racism, or their rapid descent into fascism. This thread is about China disappearing a dissenter for “reeducation,” and this conversation is about how you’re a fresh account, happy to dismiss any criticism of your glorious fascist state as “American propaganda” with no logic other than “they said stuff I don’t like so it must be an American psyop.” No amount of whataboutism will change that you’re a dishonest actor, openly mocking one imperialist nation, while shilling for another.
