Technology@lemmy.world•Spotify Music Library Scraped by Pirate Activist GroupEnglish
2101·15 days agoSince day one, we have stood with the artist community against piracy, and we are actively working with our industry partners to protect creators and defend their rights.
Lmao. They protect and defend artist rights so hard they they’ve refused to pay a fair compensation, and have taken it further by promoting AI artists over actual artists. This statement is almost comical after it was reported that they’ve had copy cats to replace King Glizard and the Lizard Wizard when they pulled their albums from Spotify

World News@lemmy.world•Vatican commission votes against allowing women as Catholic deaconsEnglish
5·1 month agoI was raised Catholic, and I asked my mother once why we never saw women as deacons or priests. I was told that women should not be permitted to teach (scripture). There’s a few verses about that in the new testament, in Timothy specifically if I recall correctly.
Imagine how confusing that was for me considering most of the faculty at the Catholic school were nuns! Or that my mother herself was Catechism teacher for Confirmation.
I hear an ancient voice, whispering from the Void, and it chills my lightless heart
Sometimes I forget I have a video game tattoo lmao

World News@lemmy.world•Taco Bell rethinks AI drive-through after man orders 18,000 watersEnglish
3·4 months agoThey do not contradict each other. I’m certain there will be more stops as the city grows, because they keep improving it. I used to live in a city, in another state, with one of the best public transportation systems in the country, and they also kept improving that system to include the surrounding cities in other counties. Just because something isn’t perfect already does not mean we can’t take it seriously and strive for perfection

World News@lemmy.world•Taco Bell rethinks AI drive-through after man orders 18,000 watersEnglish
4·4 months agoIt’s a mile, and across an interstate exit, to my nearest bus stop. And I live in the only city in the enormous state that takes public transportation seriously.
I think I feel bad when I read articles like the ones you posted, before this I’d cross the distances and not think much of it because my last two cities didn’t have public transportation. Now I can’t cross fast enough to beat the crossing light, and it’s so incredibly unsafe if I fall. I feel like the problem, I guess

16·4 months agoMan, I never used fast food, or drive throughs as much as I have since I developed a mobility disorder. Last week I put a pickup order in at my local coffee shop out of habit, and couldn’t carry both my coffee and the breakfast sandwich to my car at the same time. Which sounds so stupid, but it took so much extra energy for both trips into the store that I was ready to go home and call it a day after that lol
I know the answer is “don’t get fast food and just eat at home”, but I’ve also been so tired after work/school that I’m not eating, and I dunno what the answer to that is either. My state isn’t a place where people think about how to care for their communities, and most of it has hours of highway between “cities”

World News@lemmy.world•Cats develop dementia in a similar way to humansEnglish
1·5 months agoI had a cat with dementia when I was a kid, she didn’t make it past 7 years old. Now I have a 16yo cat who is starting to show the same signs. Today she nearly ran out of the house when I got home, and didn’t seem to recognize me. It’s rough.
She’s curled up next to me rn, but I’m still thinking those hard thoughts like when do I make the choice to put her to sleep? I’m not ready for that, maybe never will be, but she’s always been a very frightened cat and she doesn’t deserve to feel more frightened because of dementia.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump rejected Israeli plan to kill Iran's supreme leader, US official saysEnglish

Bandcamp is what my bands like to use. They often have events (Bandcamp Fridays) where 100% of purchases go to the artists. Some bands also make decent money off merch sales from their own storefronts
