Holy shit I opened the webpage and I was stunned with a ad thingy with no button to Decline all but instead with a setting page. Why are sites like this now. At least they ask instead of just doing it without consent, that’s a plus.

5·3 months agoI liked Genshin until I noticed I love more to waste my time programming and doing system administration. Genshit is just time waster 3000 it doesn’t even have a good history (my world level was like 50 lol). I played it primarily because it was really similar to Zelda Breath of the Wild
Me, hi

16·4 months agoNot lies, because Youtube on android uses something called DroidGuard, while on browser and other platforms, uses something called BotGuard. Their implementation differ, but NewPipe uses DroidGuard and programs like FreeTube and Invidious use BotGuard. So that’s probably the reason why NewPipe still works fine.
Don’t quote me on that tho. But that’s what I know

Soatok also has a very good post about XMPP
https://soatok.blog/2024/08/14/security-issues-in-matrixs-olm-library/
Matrix is great, but not the best, recently, less than a week ago, the Matrix.org server went down due to a drive failure, so they had to recover all the server data using a backup, so you are better off using a homeserver that is not matrix.org.
Also, all clients of matrix kind of suck. Element desktop is extremely laggy and sluggish to use. Element for Android is deprecated, ElementX, their new android client is not completed and lacks basic features. There is other clients but all of them have their downsides.

Fijxu@programming.devto Technology@lemmy.world•Websites Are Tracking You Via Browser FingerprintingEnglish
8·7 months ago+1. Mullvad browser is the best when it comes to browse the clearnet (not Tor). Also, if anyone reading this, do not compile Mullvad browser yourself, only use the official binary from the Mullvad site (or the -bin variant if you use Arch Linux AUR) since from my testing, different compiled versions of Mullvad browsers come with different fingerprints.
Using an optimized build from CachyOS and using it on CreepJS will give you a low amount of visits, same goes with the Flatpak build, but the binary from the Mullvad site gives around 2k views, which means that at least 2k people have the exact same fingerprint as you, but of course, it counts the people that have visited CreepJS to test their fingerprint. There is also fingerprint.com which seems to be wayyy more advanced.

21·7 months agoSoooo, how do I access the full article? I have to pay? Lol

ID verification for phone numbers.
ALMOST every bank now forces you to have a phone application to authorize payments and each banks implements it in their own way, no standardized way like TOTP (RFC 6238) or Passkeys (WebAuthn), and sometimes those apps force you to use a verified phone (no custom ROM basically) because of security. So if you have no battery (or phone number, because some banks still send you codes trough SMS), you can’t authorize transactions.
Most banks use 3rd party, non local AI companies to verify your identify with your face.
