THE FINALS: Season 4 Power Shift - #45 Worldwide
I’m pretty sure that just doing “quick searches” is exactly how he ended up with AI answers to begin with.
“Man who works 10 hours per year tells underlings to work 60 hours per week.”
Dang, there went all my legitimate plans for signal jamming.
It’s pretty easy to run a local LLM. My roommate got real big into generative AI for a little while, and had some GPT and Stable Diffusion models running on his PC. It does require some pretty beefy hardware to run it smoothly; I believe he’s got an RTX 3090 in that system.
For me, it’d be Prime. The game just oozes atmosphere from start to finish, and has one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time. I still sometimes listen to the Phendrana Drifts tracks because they’re just so damn chill.
You know, just things that nobody really needs to begin with, right?
I’m gonna be honest, I’m skeptical of the claims this article makes. Tuta has a history of using fake emails and “updates” from competitors in order to sell their product. Last year, they spread a screenshot on their Mastodon account of a fake email allegedly from Google, announcing that Gmail was shutting down. They were told in the post that their claim was inaccurate and that the “email” they were sharing was fake, but they left their post up anyway.
It wasn’t until they were told that they could be sued for false advertisement that they removed the post. Their response was effectively “Oops, we forgot to fact-check it before going to bed”, which I’m not sure I believe, because how do you write an entire post based on a screenshot, with the intention to sell your product, and not think even for half a second “Hmm maybe I should confirm some of these wild claims I’m about to make”? It’s either malice or incompetence, neither of which instill trust.
I’m not saying this to defend Google, just to highlight that Tuta doesn’t take issue with lying to potential customers, and that’s something you should know before you give them your money. If they’re willing to spread such a stupid and easily-disproven lie before you’re even a customer, what are they willing to lie about once you give them your credit card?
Does it matter when half the authentic results on any search engine these days always take you to pages with AI content, anyway?
The article says as much. But it’s also definitely both. While the dating app scene has been abysmal for the last 10 years or so, Gen Z is also a lot less sexually active than previous generations were at their age. There’ve been a few reports on how Gen Z is having less sex, and how they have less demand for sex in media because they grew up inundated with sexualized media their whole lives. It’s pretty interesting to see the attitude shift toward sex with the generations.
when will they tackle loot boxes?
Once loot boxes stop buying yachts.
I would argue that most people never need lossless, because most people don’t use speakers/headphones with high enough fidelity to produce any acoustic difference to a high-bitrate MP3 in the first place.
I used to work with a guy who swore by his FLAC collection, and would listen to it through some $40 Skullcandy earphones. I never understood why.
It’s crazy that Netflix originally knew this back in the 2010s. Somehow, over the years, they managed to forget this little nugget of wisdom.
They’re a also bad choice for e-bikes because they’re heavy as hell. I had an e-bike a while back that had two lead acid batteries, and they were about 15 lbs each. The added weight made it almost impossible to go uphill with the motor, so you’d have to pedal a much heavier bike up hills. Not a good experience at all.
PRESENTING to the emergency room ☝️ where we are now.
Bold move for a platform with nothing to watch.
It’s hard not to when the man who just did two nazi salutes at the presidential inauguration is also trying to insert himself into our gaming spaces. We don’t want nazis in our communities.
Considering that nazi content has been otherwise decently moderated on the other major vertical video platforms, I expect that we’re going to see a new wave of youth propaganda since no such moderation exists on Twitter. There’ve been attempts by the right to get into TikTok, but you can only say so much hateful shit before they actually ban you so they’ve had to keep a semblance of civility there, so it’s a little scary to think of what’ll happen when that sort of content goes unchallenged on a major social platform now that they can say the quiet parts out loud.
It feels a lot like using a game controller to control your mouse, if you’ve ever used Joy2Key or similar programs.
I’ve been wanting a replacement for ages now. The problem is that Discord does everything it does very well (with a few exceptions), way better than any of its competitors. It’s incredibly hard to replace, because no other product really matches it in any category. Cost, ease of use, feature set, cross-app API support… Nobody else comes close; even if you paid a ton of money for premium services to replace Discord, you’re still likely going to downgrade your overall experience.
I really want to see more competition in this space.
